2010 Meeples Choice Awards results

by henrik on June 22nd, 2011 at 11:21 am

The Royal Gamers always keep an eye out for awards that are being handed out all over the world. Here is another one that might just be a little spoiler when it comes to which game will be one of the new SdJ-winners! The Meeples Choice Awards are awarded by a very dedicated and game obsessed Yahoo-Group every year (Spielfrieks).

I can tell you now that one of the winners is Martin Wallace’s London, and if you want to know what other games reeked in the laurels, have a look on their website!

KingBrick – UK Game Expo Family Game of the Year

by henrik on June 18th, 2011 at 8:50 pm
Posted In: Games

Some of you might have heard the name already but most of you probably have not. Kingbrick has been generating lots of buzz on The UK Games Expo, coming both from families and gamers alike and it is now the official family game of the year. The game is a dexterity game where players have to shoot (flick) the enemy’s king of the board. Yes, it is a dexterity game and it looks like an outrageously good and simple version of chess. The game is self-published and can be ordered from the KingBrick website. We hope this game won’t vanish in the haze and maybe, one day, see the light of day through a publisher. But for now, let’s support this indie gem of a game.

7 Wonders – Computer game

by henrik on June 16th, 2011 at 7:49 am
Posted In: New Gaming Worlds

For all those 7 Wonders fans and fans-to-be out there. Some industrious geek out there created a PC version of the very popular board/card game 7 Wonders (which is a strong contender for the Expert Spiel des Jahres). The feedback has been good so far. Go and check it out and train those wonder building skills against the AI.

Download it here !

Update 26/07/2011: the page and any mention of the download no longer exists. Possibly Asmodee asked the author to take it down, but we don’t know for sure.

Interview with Wolfgang Kramer

by Karl Bunyan on June 14th, 2011 at 12:33 pm
Posted In: Interviews

There’s a great interview with Wolfgang Kramer over on Opinionated Gamers. By way of a teaser, some of my highlights are that not only is 6 Nimmt! one of his favourite designs, but it has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide, and discovering that Kramer is a bit of a Sid Sackson fan. You’ll also find eight common points that link all of his designs if you read the full interview.
